Ok, I've looked and I've looked, but 95% of the styles available either suck ass or require payment.
SO, what I propose we do is get one person (knowledgable in both CSS and willing to create some graphics) to come up with a new style or 5. I will be playing around with the style editor today and see if I can come up with something myself, but I want someone else to volunteer also. I'll have to create a temp admin account for said person, because that's the only way to get to the style editor.
So... anyone wanna do it?

*a cough echoes in the room*
-
Yes?
-
nah I suck at everything, including but not limited to, life
-
If you want to do it, that's cool.. I just wasn't aware of your graphics/CSS knowledge.
-
If given a design I could probably code it up. But I suck at design.
-
Just a quick logo mostly because the Vbulletin thing annoys me!
-
Looks a little blurry... can you sharpen it up? I'll post this one tho.
-
What size can it be, i just made it the same as the Vbulletin one.
Ok looks pretty shit but i'll fix the anti ali... (err the blurry-ness!)

So... anyone wanna do it?
If you have test board set up Ober, would it be possible to let a number of people loose on that? That way they hopefully wouldn't be able to do much damage and if anything half-way presentable comes out of it then - that would probably be a miracle.
If given a design I could probably code it up. But I suck at design.
Would it be possible to start by tweaking the colours/fonts and saving that as a template?
Is this the manual:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/styles_and_templates
-
That does appear to be the manual, fitlike.
And I can't setup a test board... at least I don't think I can, I'm still trying to figure out this damn style manager. It's f-ing crazy. No wonder why everyone else was bitching up a storm.
By the way, I have uploaded the one free style I was able to get my hands on. It is a bit... "red"... but whatever, it's available.
-
It is a bit... "red"... .
Fucking hell, my retinas...
-
Can't say I didn't warn you.
-
Well, could I have a go - until someone comes forward who actually knows what they're doing or I get bored?
I just hope everybody likes porridge grey.
Mmmmm porridge.
edit: I seem to remember reading somewhere or other in the vb licence that you could set up a second testing forum provided it wasn't open to the public but I don't know if you set Mike up with that one so he can indulge his fetish for fiendish experiments.
-
I'd like to see some kind of test board setup - maybe even back at whproductions? I'd be quite happy to mess around with some stuff if i knew the worst that would happen is that the test board needed to be reinstalled.
-
Well... I can try it, but I guess I'm just worried they'll cancel the license if I try and install it in 2 places.
Besides, I can't even figure out how to fucking get people to the style manager anyways, permissions suck ass with this thing.
-
It looks like it's part of the admin cp - what about the 'usergroups' mentioned in this manual page:
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/sectionsummary
Does that offer a way to control access?
but I guess I'm just worried they'll cancel the license if I try and install it in 2 places.
If you have a valid license, you may set up an additional test forum in order to test code, template and database modifications. To make this clear to us and our license verification procedures, place it in a directory called 'testvb' and be sure to password protect it. It must not be accessible by the general public.
See: http://www.vbulletin.com/order/license_agreement.php
edit: If you can, set this up then you can grant permissions to it without too much concern provided it's not publically accessible and is password protected - we are after all going to be using it as intended: entirely for the purposes of testing. I'm assuming that 'templates' refers to the style templates, which seems to be the issue of the moment.
If you're still in doubt, email vbulletin and ask for clarification.

Loads of free styles here??
-
I've been in there, and made Mike an admin, and set it up so his permissions are the same as mine (as far as I can tell), but he still can't see everything I can.
And as far as the styles, I can't figure out how to get them. I'm a member of the community, but I can't seem to download any of those styles... you need some kind of special permission. And I can't get to it from the member section either. I'm going to have to ask about it.
