Opera 9 beta
« on: May 04, 2006, 09:11:01 AM »
Anyone  running  the  new  beta?  (ober?)    Is  it  fairly  stable?  Are  the  new  features  any  good?    Anyone  using  the  widgets?

I've been running the beta since it came out (and the weekly versions before that).  They've all been stable from what I've seen.  The new options are pretty cool (especially the bittorrent downloading).  I don't use the widgets because I use the Yahoo widgets and they're better anyways.  I've basically turned that feature off.

There have been a lot of improvements otherwise as far as the handling of pages and it's definately very solid.

I've just downloaded the beta. T'is all good so far. The only widgets I've decided I like are the wikipedia and free dictionary ones.

Which Yahoo Widgets you run Ober?  I tried them, but load times got to be a pain in the ass...

I have been using the beta since ober made me aware it came out, which i think was the same day it released. im loving it. I'm not using the internal BT client because it seems to download bigger files slower than bitcomet.

I use Yahoo Widgets for weather, a small ping widget that constantly pings 3 servers I run at work, and shortcuts tool that expands instead of using a hidden windows toolbar on the edge of my screen.  I use some other ones from time to time, but those are the big ones.  My development SQL server runs 3 that track memory/cpu/uptime.

Is there any way I can get Opera to minimise to the task... thing in the bottom right? I remember 8.5 appears there but can't remember if I can minimise it.

I want to do it because I like having the widgets available without having the browser taking up vital taskbar space.

I get what he is saying, kinda. When he minimizes opera he wants it to go to the taskbar not the start menu bar. it's an option with winamp but i never looked into it for opera

Well I know 8.5 did appear in the taskbar, but I'm not sure if you could minimise it down to there.
Meh, bollocks to it.

GODDAMNIT!  I just installed 9 and it didn't upgrade my old version (8.5).  It did a seperate install (I clicked upgrade).  Which means the new one has none of my bookmarks or password wands....this thing may get uninstalled pretty quick...

And on top of that, new tab is not ctrl-T!  Fuck!  That's part of the reason I never switched to fucking firefox.

Maybe I'll just uninstall this shit and wait for the beta to end...
