My old laptop is running vista smooth and reliable at 512MB of ram.

As for drivers the big reason so many are crying out is because they are trying to use vista on computers 3-5 years old or older. My old laptop is from 2004 and had no issues at all. But old devices may never see vista drivers.

How much RAM can Vista32 see?  XP limits out in the mid 3s.

I'm with ober on Office 07 - Excel is such a huge upgrade.  And since I deal with a bunch of relatively low tech teachers/kdis here at work...the layout is actually a lot better for a lot of them.  It is more logical.  Those of us that know what we are doing or want to do the advanced things we're used to kick it sometimes, but those that don't, like it.
govtcheez03:  i kind of look for it - i seek out stupidity and annoy it until it either gets better, gets banned, or goes away on its own

I dont do alot of excel work, only for some website work on occasion. I use alot of word though, and i guess my problem with O2K7 is that i have become used to OpenOffice. I spend so much time trying to find what im looking for in O2K7 that i have found projects take me longer then they would using OO or OXP.

I havent used O2K7 since the BETA, but im reluctent to even download it and check it out. Do you guys see an improvement anywhere other then Excel? Anything significant, that is.

Sad that Vista can't access anymore ram than XP (32).

I'm talking Vista 32-bit right now. However, my new desktop that will be done in a few weeks may get Ultimate 64bit. I recall alot of programs not working on XP 64bit, is this the same for vista or is that a past thing?

Isn't it still a huge problem that lots of hardware doesn't and never will have Vista drivers?  Worse many that do have Vista drivers still need fine tunining and or troubleshoioting?
I wouldn't say never.  If the market shifts, demand will require it.  And I haven't heard anything about "tuning" drivers.

That and it was horribly slow since on only got a mere 1GB of RAM.
1.  My work laptop only has 1GB and it's dogging.  I need another gig and they're going to give it to me... I just need to find an hour to hand it over.

It has to be something else. I use my old laptop everyday for music, photoshop, burning dvd's etc and its running better then it did on xp. And it only has 1.6 intel cpu, 512mb of ram, and 128mb onboard video. And i have all the effects and such running.

I'm fairly certain limitation is hardware related,
oh and 64gb

Alot of hardware can handle 4 or more gigs. The limitation is in the operating system itsself.

>oh and 64gb

In theory. Ultimate, in theory, can do over 100gigs. But this isnt the case in reality. See the link i posted above.

Actually the limitation is in the CPU, with 32-bit registers you can only represent 2^32 addresses (ie. 4GB).

Don't back down. It's not your fault. Come on, blame it on something!

Or at least give a lame comeback. Something like: 'you can only represent 2^32 addresses'
