I just did the Chest/Back on the same day and it feels like I've blown a gasket in the back of my head.  It's really bizarre.

I haven't lifted since mid the start of July.  All my progress has fallen by the wayside.  Oh well.  I'll get back into it soon.  The thing I found that really bored/shat me to tears was having to eat so goddamn much all the time while training.  I forgot how running a few km one day and weight training the next burns through your stores.

I'm getting a 50kg (110lb) set today.  It's a steal, only $140.  Comes with a barbell and two dumbells with a half-doz spinlocks.  I don't have a bench at home but I'll worry about that later.  It's not a huge set by any means, but it'll help me to get me started again.

You're probably going to outgrow that very quickly if you're at all serious about things.

I f'n hate spin locks.  Always went with the springclamp locks.  They are fast, never slip and fit any configuration.

And why would you need a half dozen of them?  If you've only got one bar, why would you want more than two?

Well I'm going to be doing powerlifts or anything.  I want to get a good bit of definition in my arms, chest and back, I don't want a lot of actual mass per se.  I don't want to be the biggest bloke on the block.  I just want to look fit.  For the price and where I'm at, I think it was a good deal.

It's two dumbell bars plus the barbell = 2 x 2 x 2 = 6 spinlocks.  Make sense? :)

You're not going to get big if you don't eat a ton.  Even without doing any training at all, I'd wager you should be able to bench close to that 110, deadlift far above it, and squat above it.

Oh, I get it - they're not preset dumbbells, then?

Maybe but it'd ruin me for a week trying to do that.  And no, they're not preset dumbs.

Well yeah, but that's what's going to happen when you get back into a serious workout regimen when you haven't done anything recently.  It goes away quickly though.

edit: You can reduce the pain by stretching immediately after lifting and making sure you get protein after your workout.

True true.  If I outgrow them I can always keep them around for my kids when they get old enough or sell them.  I'd probably get at least what I paid for them if I keep them in good nick.  I have some whey protein mix and I've stocked up on a few cans of tuna.
