File Sharing - Windows XP
« on: December 10, 2006, 04:03:19 PM »
Hi,

Ive googled it.. and tried a few things, cant seem to get it to work.  I have printer sharing working, so file/printer sharing is turned on.

When I open up My Network Places I see two directories on my brother's computer, which are located under 'My Network Places' on his computer.  If he puts in a file into one of these directories I can see it.

Ive turned sharing on for one directory (on my computer), and when I open My Network Places it appears..

I can acess my brother's computer (the shared components) by typing the computer Name \\Computer Name\ in the address bar.. when he tries to access mine that way, it asks for a password.

Ive tried to add him ass a user on the shared folder, but it searches my computer for a location, I cant search 'Workgroup' which we are both under.

Im using XP Pro, he is using XP Home.

Thanks

Edit: Created a limited account on my computer, and I gave him full permissions on the directory.. but he still cant access it.  He can view the folders Im sharing at least..

Edit: After rebooting the machines it works.. but when I boot up I see the two uesr accounts, thats pretty annoying...

Edit: I deleted his account, and turned on permissions for guest, but that doesnt work.  Is there a way to have two user accounts, but when I boot up it goes directly into mine so both dont appear?
