???
They're no different than any other rap group, except they play their own instruments.  What do you mean?

With Mos Def it's best to pretend he didn't release anything on his own after Black on Both Sides.

> Check them out, or Cheez if you're keen I wouldn't mind doing a burnt CD swap or something

Absolutely, I'm down for swapping CDs.

No I mean TVOTR aren't rap.  The guy doesn't rap.  They're rock/indie.  I know the Roots are rap though.

Oh, I'm not familiar with them so I thought that was some sort of Aussie slang I just didn't get.

Anything in particular you're looking for?

I used to listen to the old school rap when I was a kid. NWA, n stuff. Anyone remember when ICE-T wasn't just a tasty drink or a badd-ass cop on Law and Order? "On with the body count.."

heh, that just made me think about CB4,

I will get round to this conversation, damnit. Just haven't had time for more than a cursory listen.

Wasn't too taken with the Ghostface Killah track, but the other 2 aren't bad...

Sure, if you use AIM it'd be easy, but whatever you prefer

edit: Illmatic is one of the top 5 rap albums of all time.  Seriously, you need it.

Yeah, I know I need it. I promise I will get it before I die.

I have AIM at home, but I don't use it, and I don't message at work. Perhaps email? Thanks!

Ghostface is really hard to get into at first, yeah.

When I first started listening to rap (besides listening to Dr. Dre when I was like 10), the first couple albums I got were Mos Def's Black on Both Sides and Deltron 3030.  They're both very accessible.

Del the funkee homosapien does the rapping on Deltron 3030 - it's a collab between him, Damon Albarn from Blur, Prince Paul, and Dan the Automator (mostly).  Del also can be found on the first Gorillaz album - he's the one that raps through Clint Eastwood.

Somebody HAS to go to this show.  Holy Christ, this is like the greatest lineup ever.  Mos Def, :wutang:, RATM, The Roots, Nas, Cypress Hill, MF Doom, fucking Public Enemy!
