Coldplay - X & Y
« on: September 02, 2005, 12:59:55 PM »
I know I gave Cheez a raft of shit for this group, but I've really grown to like them.  The first album was pretty good, but this latest one is on par or better, IMO.  I've only listened to it about twice, because I can't get it out of my wife's hands, but it's definately a winner.

8/10

It's got some really standout tracks, but it's not as good as Rush Of Blood, imo

I liked Parachutes and X&Y, but haven't listened to Rush of Blood. I really should pick up a copy at some point.

I posted 3 threads in 5 minutes... all with Artist-Album name.  You'd think you might pick up on the pattern ;)

speed of sound is very mellow and isnt the best, but the albumn doesnt tend to follow that nature.

I haven't heard the whole album yet but I too have grown to like this band (a result of my girlfriend loving coldplay). I saw them live a few months ago and it was a great show.

Agreed.  I mean if you want every song to sound like "Clocks" then you'll love X&Y but on the whole it's a bit, I don't know, bombastic? They work better with a stripped down sound - case in point "Til Kingdom Come" is wonderful, but "Speed of Sound" is turgid.  Still, for a popular group they're better than the average.  I'd take Coldplay over U2 any day of the week.

Who's Coldplay?

For new music, I like Bleed Like Me by Garbage. There's not much else I've heard that would make me spend for a whole cd, even if a song or two was ok. I don't like the rap/hip-hop/top 40 stuff my kids listen to (although Stacy's Mom was kind of funny, and I'm Coming Up had a groove). Too much of the new rock I hear sounds the same as the song that came before it. OTOH, I don't get much good radio up here, rely on internet radio.

Coldplay is far more mellow than even Garbage.  I'd say U2 would be an upbeat version of them.
