Internet explorer not displaying webpage
« on: August 14, 2006, 12:02:11 PM »
My hobby site looks okay with firefox and opera, validates as xhtml 1.1 but iexplore 6 doesn't always render the complete pages unless the page is scrolled or a painting refresh (not a necessarily a browser 'refresh' action) is forced. To add to the oddness, the problem seems intermittent.

Has anyone any familiarity with this issue and, if so, a suggested workaround?

Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Can you post a link so we can have a look and try to reproduce the issue?

Sorry, seems to work fine for me in all my browsers. :(

Got a screenshot of the problem?

Don't worry about it, it's an intermittent problem at worst but only iexplore exhibits it. :)

Here's a couple of examples:

The first image is from this page(extra graphical glitch beneath the image of the window).

The second image is from this page (text missing from top section).

Now I seem to be having the issue with the MDI page. It's wierd, looks like some sort of repaint issue. The content is there and will show up if I do a select all or cover it with another window (like view source) but it only shows the portions that get refreshed so I get chopped off text where my view source window didn't cover. Strange.

I'm going to guess it has something to do with something like this issue:

Thanks tgm, I'll take a look at that although I'm not actually using empty block-level elements as described in that webpage.

I wonder if iexplore 7 has the same problem and how long it will be before that version goes on general release...?

I think IE7 is now available through Windows Update... or I should clarify that I heard that it is there now or will be in the very near future.

I'd stay away from IE7 for a while, everyone I know that has installed it has started having mysterious glitches.

The problem with your page is the infamous float bug:

Thanks again, tgm, that indeed seems to be the problem and the suggested solution appears to have fixed the issue.

I'm sure it's been said before but I can't help but note what a frustrating POS iexplore truly is. I sincerely hope ms resolves these issues with ie7.

Thanks again for all your help, guys.
