RoD is 100000000000000000% right. If your running any Windows OS ever created you need a paging file. It might be O.K. now, but it wont last.
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

Cool. But why?

Please explain precisely why. Is that true if you had 1Tb of memory (assuming that Vista and your mobo could address it)?

rod is wrong. As long as you never use more than 8gb of memory them it doesn't need paging, i'd bet vista will silently reenable paging if it ever needs to. Worst that will happen is you get couldn't start this application type errors.

Raise your hand if you've taken an operating systems class and/or a computer architecture class where they actually go over paging...
* Mike notices that RoD's hand isn't raised.

I would bet that even if you disabled paging that vista still uses it.  It is kinda hard to change your memory management model on the fly, especially when it involves using faults/interrupts.  I'd imagine that the option simply makes the memory management less aggressive in the use of pages (ie:  Maybe page out parts of the OS that aren't being used but not page out applications)

Oh and VBprogrammer is correct and RoD is an idiot.

When you disable it, it warns you that if a fatal error occurs it "might" not be able to record the reason.  Not a big enough reason for me to not disable it.  And by the way, I was wrong before.  I apparently didn't disable it the first time because there is a separate "set" button next to the "no paging file" option.  I just hit that yesterday so I'll give a better report in a few days.

Update on the paging issue with no paging file being used.  I've gamed, I've done some Photoshop work, I've left the system up for over a week without a restart.  No issues whatsoever thus far.  I don't know if it technically improved performance to any great degree but we'll see as time moves forward.
