208 mile ride
« on: July 03, 2005, 01:44:26 PM »
Howdy,
I've just signed up for the lotoja Classic  . It's 208 miles of mountains from Logan Utah to Jackson Hole Wyoming. I have a couple of months to get ready. I'll be moving from 30-40 miles a day to 60-80 miles a day for the next 2 months, I'll throw in a few 100+ milers just for stamina and we'll see how it comes out.
Yesterday I rode 106.25 miles starting with a climb from the Salt Lake Valley floor to the top of Imagration Canyon, then out to the marina at the Great Salt Lake then back up to the foot hills and then home. That totals about 5000 feet of vertical climb.

Damn... that's some stamina.... considering you probably average around 18-20 mph (just a guess), that's like 5-6 hours without stops!

When are you moving to Australia again?

Howdy,
Actually our average speed was 16 mph, we were pretty slow in the mountains add to that a flat tire and stops for Gatorade and stuff. I hope to get closer to 5 hours before I go for 208 miles.
As neasr as I can tell I'll be leaving for down under about the middle of September. My boss left today, he'll be there 3 weeks, come back for 2 weeks then go back permanent, he said about a month after he gets there permanently I'll move down.

That is certainly a long ride.  The longest I did was 150 on a mountain bike.  I broke one of my pedal clips in Chicago and had to ride back without it.  I was averaging 19mph on the way there and about 14 or so on the way back.  Took all day.... but we did spend a little time down at the Navy pier just goofing around (like jumping off the steps, which is how I broke my pedal clip = dumbass)

More power to you though.  Have a safe ride.  Let us know how you come out of it.  I am sure it will be a real adventure.

Howdy,
 Thanks everyone.
I did a training ride today, 54.75 miles, 3:09:15. A couple of good climbs but mostly getting used to sitting on my bike for long periods of time. I'm also adjusting my water/gatorade, food intake to get the best energy while eating the least stuff.

What's wrong with just letting it dribble down your leg?  ;)
