Gallery style webdesign
« on: October 04, 2008, 12:00:37 PM »
I'm building a simple site for a friend who has been doing tattoo's for a few years. He is looking for something simple, basically a bio, some contact info, and the gallery. His main concern is having photos, lots of photos.

I dont want to go the route of most sites and use a system like coppermine, and he doesnt need a forum so integration isnt a concern.

Basically i see in my head a page with thumbnails, something simple like a smaller version of opera's speed dial and an admin control panel for him to manage it. Shouldnt be too hard to code, but i was wondering if something like this has already been done open source that u guys know of?
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

"Gallery" may work, but i kind of want to display the images/captions right in the site without going to another directory. maybe i need to use something like Gallery and write my own code to pull out what i want...

i wrote my own, very light, application. It probably took a little longer then simply configuring a pre-built script -- but its fairly small and I can mod it much easier.

Hey micah did you institute any kind of CP or anthing for the gallery? I would like to make a few folders, each one being the name of an albumn, and have the site automatically update if he dumps new photos in. or something.

try this: http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/

I still use this on a few sites. The free version is very basic and you can't adjust everything but it still gets the job done and it is clean and efficient. The $$ version is more robust and gives you some bells and whistles.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
