Freaking interpersonal questions on job exams
« on: June 30, 2008, 05:47:52 PM »
So I just got back from taking the exam for Associate System Software Specialist for the state.  Think basically system software design.  Over half of the questions were stupid interpersonal questions.  They gave situations and then asked if a particular action would:
Fuck it up worse
Not give any positive response
Handle the situation but not in the best way
Have the best resolution

The problem is that, especially with coworkers, there right action can change depending on the people involved.

Of course their example was complete bullshit:
You notice your team isn't working well together and things are getting dropped.  Calling a meeting to discuss the problems at hand was ruled to make things worse while sending an email stating that work not getting done can be cause for disciplinary action.

Not sure how well I did on the technical part as I wasn't familiar with all of the terms they used.  If asked to explain it I'm sure I could do it.  Like the question about what the first step of software development is.  The first thing that popped into my head was "Figure out what the fucking requirements are".  But they didn't have that so I selected some BS answer that was full of fluff words about challenges and opportunity.
