So, anyone interested in joining a march madness bracket competition? If so I can set something up.
-
I'd play.
My Spartans are going to beat Marquette but then get raped by UNC.
-
Yes.
I will get 3rd place.
-
Okay, since we should all have Yahoo logins already I just started a competition there. Heres the message to get started:
You have been invited to join pjyelton's Private Group (http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/men/register/joinprivategroup_assign_team?GID=104574&P=sink) in Yahoo! Sports Tournament Pick'em.
In order to join the group, follow the link above, or go to the game front page and click on the "Join Group" button. When prompted, enter the following information:
Group ID#: 104574

I like Yahoo's setup this year, but I'm not sure how I feel about the info link. I get the distinct impression that actually knowing something about the teams in the field will make my prognostications skills worsen.
-
I'm in... and yeah, the brackets are much better this year. We need more people!
-
We need at least one more team, or I'll end up in last place!
-
I'm in. I'll make picks later
-
Go MSU!
-
Knuck, you are my favorite person here.
-
yeah, i'm out on this one.
we all know how bad i sucked at Fantasy Football and I actually WATCH football.
despite my proximity to UCONN, i don't follow the NCAA enough to waste my time on any brackets.
in fact, i'm not even sure why i'm posting this message.
-
What are you talking about? You don't need to know anything about NCAA basketball to fill out a bracket. That's the beauty of it!
Just follow the seeds. Pick a few upsets in every round. Make sure you pick at least one #12 seed to win one game, seeds lower than that you can pick at your own risk. I tend to pick teams based on how much I like their team name, or colors, or location, or whatever.
So c'mon and fill out a bracket. You only have to do it once and more people is always more fun. Besides, if you end up in last place it won't be because you suck, it will be because of random luck.
(Caveat: If you get last place every year for more than three consecutive years, then you suck.)
-
>You don't need to know anything about NCAA basketball to fill out a bracket.
Exactly! That's why you always hear stories about secretaries winning the office pool after picking based on who has the cutest uniforms and shit like that.
Plus, after you spend the 15 minutes it takes to fill in your bracket, you're done. No more input required at all.
-
Yeah... so Knuck needs to fill one out too! You lazy bastard! ;)
-
You don't need to know anything about NCAA basketball to fill out a bracket.
Yeah, the only thing you need to remember is the higher the seed number the better, so a #16 seed is 16 times stronger than a #1 seed. Approximate of course.
-
I'm in...I don't know BBall, but I'm in
-
That's the spirit!
Really, there is no excuse. If you have opened this thread at any time for any reason, then you should make picks in this league.
http://tournament.fantasysports.yahoo.com/
The only excuse I consider valid is if you happened upon this thread accidentally (using RSS or show unread posts or something) and you don't have a Yahoo id. If one or both of those situations isn't true, you have no excuse!*
* Disclaimer: "I don't want to" is a valid excuse, but it still sucks.
-
I'm in...I don't know BBall, but I'm in
that's ok you do ok in football too
-
I'm a football whizz...Lions are going all the way this year. It's going to be Kitna to McDonald all year long...
-
Really? WOW! I gotta remember that tip! THANKS KERMI YOU B A GENIUS!
-
ok, you twisted my arm (in a "nothings illegal on the streets" bar fight) so I'm in.
-
Yay!
-
The tournament has started. As of right now I'm in third place! :p
-
Fucking ORU and ODU
LBST better pull this out
-
Where can look to watch the bracket fill in as the games are over?
Thx.
-
If you had signed up, you could just link to your full bracket page and it would be updated live with scores and everything.
But if you don't have a yahoo bracket this is the best I can find so far:
http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/mayhem/brackets/viewable_men
Or: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/bracket but you have to click on each region.
-
Woooooo MSU
ps lol duke
-
Dito!
-
Whoa, my girlfriend got every single game right last night.
-
Wow... I did alright :)
-
Even though I screwed up 5 of my picks, I didn't have any of those teams advancing past the second round anyway, so I'm not too worried.
-
kermi... you douche... you didn't even pick an overall winner!
-
Woot, last place! Suck it biatchs!
-
and i'm in first? :dunno:
who'd of thunk that playing the odds would give positive results?
but dont worry, after round two I picked the underdog in every game (so that the final four ends up with all teams currently seeded in 4th place).
-
> who'd of thunk that playing the odds would give positive results?
That's the thing - one of my friends said she could never do this because she doesn't know anything about the teams. But hell, if you just picked straight seeds yesterday, you would have only missed 2 games yesterday, out of 16. It's more fun to cheer for the 5/12 upset, but they're underdogs for a reason.
-
Well, after round 1 the top two teams are MicahSux@NCAA[ brackets ] and Random Guessing anyone? by Kermi. Charlie's 3rd Place Team is in third place.
Picking the higher seed in every game would put you in the 95th percentile.
Nope, doesn't take a lot of NCAA knowledge to do well at this.
-
welp, i'm fucked. I don't think I've ever had my champion lose in the 2nd round before
-
WTF? USC beat Texas??? I'll be standing in the "fucked" line as well.
-
also now screwed.
I only have one team with a chance of making it to my final four and I have them loosing that game.
-
> Picking the higher seed in every game would put you in the 95th percentile.
It'd be interesting to see some sort of historical breakdown showing how you'd generally do if you picked just straight seeds and then picked from the final four on randomly
-
Um...go Pitt!
-
Let's see how this pastes
edit: That turned out well. The teams listed are the teams that made the Final Four that year, with the champ in caps.YEAR SEEDS TEAMS

with the champ in caps.2006 2, 3, 4, 11 UCLA, Florida, LSU, George Mason
So who won, UCLA or LSU??? :p
Have you guys used the scenario generator? Ober, you are far from fucked. If Oregon gets far you have a great chance. My hopes are pinned to UCLA and North Carolina. I haven't spent a lot of time on it but you can see if you have a chance.
-
Actually that's weird, since Florida won
-
Woot, I thought I was fucked too until I realized I had Texas as my pick in my work bracket not here. Even though I'm in last place now still have all four final four picks left and the generator shows me winning most scenarios as long as Florida wins it all.
-
Well... we'll just have to wait and see.
-
I can't believe kermi is actually winning and probably will win the whole thing.
-
If Georgetown beats Ohio St on Saturday, kermi wins.
If Ohio St beats Georgetown and UCLA beats Florida on Saturday, I win.
If Ohio St beats Georgetown and Florida beats UCLA, then Ohio St wins the national championship, kermi wins.
If Ohio St beats Georgetown and Florida beats UCLA, then Florida wins the national championship, pj wins.
So I'm rooting for UCLA and Ohio St and pj is rooting for Florida.
That's an update for any chickenshits who didn't sign up for the league. The rest of you knew that already by looking at the scenario generator on yahoo.
-
Wait wait wait.... what about ME? HOW DO I WIN???
;)
-
You can still win, but it's complicated. It involves a time machine, 10 large bags of cheetos, and a lawn mower.
I always root for UCLA, and I've been kinda pulling for Ohio St most of the tournament, so it's only fitting that those two teams have to win for me to win the bracket. Of course, I'd rather Florida win it all so I can get third place.
-
I'm still shocked I can win this thing even though I was in dead last for so long. Go Florida!!! If Florida wins I get $350 in my office pool
-
man, i dropped to 6th place (from 1st) pretty quick.
man I suck at these things!
luckily, nothing wagered, nothing lost.
(although, speaking of, i'll be in vegas on 4/9.... how much should I bet on Red?)
-
If you had picked all the higher seeds through the entire bracket, you'd still be in 1st place with 93 points.
I guess that's a lesson for you. Don't pick all upsets in the sweet 16 and elite 8.
Oh, and I'd bet $15 on red. But I'm not a fan of gambling, so...
-
Oh, and I'd bet $15 on red. But I'm not a fan of gambling, so...
I think with my luck lately, I'll just stay away from tables/slots.
I bought a GPS Device recently that I've been waiting to try out - so I plan on spending my 3 day vacation getting lost in the desert and finding my way back.
-
omg...I won...errr...ummmm...good game all.
-
ummmm... you didn't win yet, but well done on the graciousness anyway. :p
You only win if Ohio St wins, otherwise PJ wins.
-
Really? Even though we both picked Flordia to win?
Hmmm...ok...well I have to stick by my pick, so go gators...
-
It looks like you didn't pick anybody to be champion in that league, so I guess that's why PJ is projected to win if Florida wins.
-
oh shit, yup this is the bracket where I screwed that up....I did pick flordia in all my other brackets, I fogot to finish it in Yahoo. :moron:
-
Well.. that sucks for you. We can't just take you at your word either. If Florida wins, PJ gets the congratulatory post. Sorry.
-
Oh goodness, Ken's not on AIM. Someone track him down to make sure he doesn't have alcohol poisoning!
edit: Nevermind he's probably just at a "sleepover"
-
Wow... class of '07 at Florida is pretty stacked with quality atheletes.
-
Congrat's PJ.
Final standings:Place Team (Owner) Points Picks Correct Percentile on Yahoo!
1 PJ's picks (PJYelton) 115 37 of 63 75th
2 Random Guessing anyone? (kermi3) 102 44 of 63 63rd
3 Charlie's 3rd Place Team (charlie) 85 43 of 63 40th
4 ober (ober) 79 40 of 63 32nd
5 San Francisco Speculums (Govtcheez) 70 39 of 63 21st
6 MicahSux@NCAA[ brackets ] (Micah) 53 39 of 63 11th
Shockingly, I ended up in 3rd place. :dunno: :D
-
How the hell am I the only person who picked Florida to win? Same at my work, out of 55 people only 2 picked Florida. Brought me from 15th to 2nd even though I lost my other championship team in round 2 (Texas). Everyone scared to pick the favorite?
So... um... wheres my $200? :D
-
I honestly didn't realize that Florida was the overall #1. I also don't like to pick the defending champ unless I'm rooting for them.
And what $200?
-
I picked Flordia...I'm just too dumb to use the internet....I stole it...
-
Shenannigans!! You changed your post Charlie, I want my $200!
-
Apparently kermi3 stole it. I say you go take his car. It's worth a bit more than $200, but I think that should cover pain, suffering and punitive damages.
Leave the navigational system. That's so nice it would be mean to take it.
