My company is going to get me an iPhone 4G in the next few weeks and I'm curious if anyone has transitioned from a 3G to a 4G? What is the process? Can I just plug the new one in and sync?
And another question... once they disable it, I can basically use the 3G like an iPod Touch, right?
-
Well first you have to wait for them to release the 4G. Now if you wanted the iPhone 4 that is different (and I don't know)
-
4th generation, turd. Do a google search, I'm not the only one to refer to it that way.
-
Just proves there are a lot of stupid tech writers :D
Personally I won't consider the iPhone 4-whatever until it has 4G.
-
I have. Very simple. Plug in and sync. Syncing time takes some time if you have lots to copy, but it syncs A LOT faster than a 3G.
I've used my 3G as a touch. Put it in airplane mode and turn on WiFi....works great.
Do it.

Yes

FUCK... I guess beggars can't be choosers... but they got me a 3GS, not a 4. :(
-
bah - that still has HUGE speed upgrades doesn't it?
-
Bwahahah! Fuckers.
-
Yeah... HUGE speed difference for sure. Now I'm trying to figure out what I can do that I couldn't do before. Other than the fucking compass, does anyone know of anything?

Soo... not that much?
-
From the 3G, yeah not really. The compass is nice though (it lets you orientate the map to your line of travel).

ummmm....multitasking? That's pretty huge for me...screen lock would be smaller but also cool. But double tapping that home button would be the big plus I'd think of...

On my 3GS double tapping that home button just brings up my favorites. No multi-tasking.
-
Can you do multi-tasking with the 3GS? I thought that was limited to the 4G.
-
Oh...well then fuck you. Go trade it in.
-
Well I dunno... I haven't tried to turn it on. And I just looked and I don't even see an option to turn it on.
