STFU, bitch (http://www.dayofsilence.org/). Link courtesy of #sporks.
If only all annoying minorities could protest like that.
Still if I was a prof I would so schedule speeches that day or something.
-
pointless?
-
...so you have something against homosexuality?
-
nope...i just think nobody will take any notice of what hey're trying to do
-
You mean they will say nothing and yet no one willl listen to them?
-
how often do you go to school and not say anything at all during the whole day? how many people do you talk to on a regular basis during a school day. don't you think that they would at least wonder why you weren't talking?
-
and then they would ask you...
and you couldn't tell them!
It can't fail!
-
Would they care?
-
people will notice this thing, the real question is if they'd care
-
and then they would ask you...
and you couldn't tell them!
It can't fail!
and that lack of knowledge intensifies the need for the knowledge, which you will fulfill the next day ;)
-
Or they will think you are an asshole and not be interested in your opinions.
I probably would.
-
Maybe I should pass out that link. There are a bunch of people I could go a day without hearing...
-
last time something like this happened it was a high school demonstration against drunk driving. it wasn't just silence, they walked together and an announcement was made in their name.
i guess silent people would hand out pamphlets or have a sign saying why they're silent. it's as good as most other ways of protest, plus it's nonobtrusive and not annoying.

Yeah... but you absolutely detest gay people. So such a bias would be expected don't you think?
-
I wouldn't have to know they are gay. Without context just not talking to someone all of a sudden would be rude.

...and yelling at somebody (as in some other forms of protest) isn't rude?
-

out of context, yes, but you don't honestly think that a bunch of protestors are just going to be silent without explaining to anyone else why?
-
One could just remain silent for the day on their own. Maybe have a little button or sticker that says why they are being silent.
-
Yeah, but thats almost to be expected. The reason I thought that was notable was that I'd much prefer they shut up, and there they go doing it.
-
I get what you are saying imperito. I do see the humor/irony in it all.
Not to mention, I think that if somebody was all of a sudden not talking to me at all... I would think that they have a problem with me, not that they are joining in on some protest. So it is kindof silly. What happened to good old fashioned picket signs and marches? I mean... if you got something to say... isn't that a good enough way to do it? :)
-

you just think that because you're not noticing the 'negative space' in this picture... as an example of my point: http://members.lycos.co.uk/brisray/optill/oind.htm
you aren't realizing the power of silence--you'd have to either use it or have it used on you to fully realize how truly powerful not yelling really can be--and if they have a sticker/pin/flyer telling you why they're being silent, you have no excuse to thinking it has to do directly with you.

Ha. Good one Face.
-
The 13th would be a delightfully evil day to try and force some anti-gay legislation through...

Because then people like imperito will bitch that they're shoving their sexuality in their faces.
