Router? Modem? Service?
« on: September 04, 2005, 03:59:21 PM »
Recntly my internet connection has been acting weird.

I am surfing the web, and suddenly a page stops loading, and it takes about 10 seconds before it starts loading again, its almost as if I lose my connection.  No lights on my modem turn off, and during this time where I cant surf, I ping yahoo, and it pings normally....

This has occured using both Opera and Firefox.

Ive unplugged my modem, to see if that would do anything (it didnt), and will try doing it to the router later on today.

I was just wondering if there is anything I can look at? or should call my ISP and ask them what is going on.

Thanks

ober

Call the ISP.  If everything else seems fine, I think it's them.

sounds like packet loss, send a repetitive ping to a remote location and see what kind of data loss you encounter

Thanks for the suggestions.

My brother said the net was fine in Firefox, and only Opera was acting up, but it was both browsers.

I called up my ISP today, but before I could talk to a representative, a recording said they were having difficulties and it will be fixed shortly.

Its been fine since I called, hopefully it holds up.

Weird...

I did a direct connect to test whether it was my router, and the net always seemed to hang in Opera.  Whenver I would try to get to a site in Firefox while Opera hung, it was able to get to it.  It appears as if it is Opera...I havent changed any settings, and it happens to my brother and myself.  Any settings I can possibly change, or look at? :|

Thanks

might try uninstalling it and installing the new 8.50 version.

also try openeing the command prompt and punching these in, in order.

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

thats really odd ive never had that happen before....does FF hang at all? And if it does try to access a page with opera while its hung, kinda a reverse test.

Yea...maybe scan around the opera support forums and see if anyone has had an issue alone these lines.
