How do you know if the TV has upconversion?  I don't see many specs that mention it.

I haven't followed the whole thread, but I just thought I'd mention that I love my LG 42" LCD, 240Hz. I don't think 240Hz is totally necessary but it was onsale for cheaper than the 120Hz version plus a blue-ray player. Aside from the amazing picture, one thing I really like is that the TV plays DivX. So I can plug in my external hard-drive and watch movies directly off of it (and it even runs linux!)

Hmm... doesn't sound like it has an upconverter based on the description.

That one is only 120Hz, don't know if the jump to 240 matters with the upconverter

Nothing at all wrong with 240Hz it just doesn't matter after 120Hz.

Perspective how are non-HD channels handled for your model?

Obes maybe all of them upconvert these days.  I mentioned it because somebody at work purchased a cheap model and it looked so shitty they took it back.  I looked into it and finally figured out that it wasn't upconverting their programming.  Man, I can't remember who did that.  Been a while maybe Christmas 2010...

Regular cable looks fine. It's shit compared to DVDs or Blu-ray of course, but it doesn't look bad by any means. I don't know if it upconverts or not.

We have a DVD player that upconverts, and regular DVDs do look better than with our old DVD player on the same TV (Samsung LN46A550). So I don't think our TV upconverts on its own, and standard TV does look shitty.

But I've never heard of a TV that upconverts, only DVD players, so maybe it's rare or maybe it's all of a sudden standard. At this point I've gotten used to the shitty standard TV look and we rarely watch non-HD channels anyway.

Google search...

Does my tv upconvert.

FYI my Pioneer does.  It does so very well and is about six years old now.

So it seems all TVs upconvert, but some might be better at it.

Ober, have you looked at Time Warner's channel lineup for HD? Are there any channels not available in HD that you'd actually watch? Do you have an old DVD player that doesn't upconvert that you will use a lot?

It's not going to be long before anybody with an HD TV and HD service won't care what SD looks like on their TV, because they'll never actually need to watch it.

Time Warner has a TON of HD channels, so maybe it won't be that big of a deal.  I haven't looked at all of them, but I think TW has an equivalent HD channel for just about everything.

It's only 60hz?

But still, damn good price. I'm not convinced you can see a difference in 120hz+, but 60 seems low to me.

Shit, I just noticed that too.  I'm curious if I'll see any blurring at 60Hz.

Also found this one: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Vizio-E421VL/15992338

That one is 120 but I can't find any reviews on it.  The other has tons of great reviews.
