yanni laurel thing
« on: May 17, 2018, 08:32:04 PM »
So I generally don't get into the whole social media craze thing but I heard about it recently and finally got around to figuring out what it's about.

Funny thing is originally I hear laurel when I listen on headphones but on my laptop speakers and phone I hear yanni, which I guess makes sense since it has to do with frequency stuff. But I'm curious if that means my headphones are too bassy or what I might hear on my stereo.

It is Laurel and anyone who says otherwise needs their ears checked.

I heard yanny the first time but ever since I pretty much only hear Laurel, even on the websites that do funky stuff with the sound and assume you'll be able to hear both.

If you've never heard it, try this:

If you've heard it before and want to try to hear both words, go here:

And if you're curious about the backstory:

After reading the article I feel good about being on the right side of history on this one.

I've never heard Laurel, only yanni. Maybe it's translated into Canadian up here?

:D That's what I was thinking... especially after being wrong about the dress.

I think the story is pretty damn funny.. imagine pressing the play button on the dictionary website and hearing a completely different word, then showing your friend and it sounds correct to them. I'd flip out (well, as much as I flip out, which is generally just an eyebrow raise).

So my wife brought this up at dinner so I played the audio for both my kids.  My wife had previously only heard Laurel but both her and my son were insistent that they only heard Yanny this time.  My wife said the only other the she heard it, it was done with a female voice.  My daughter and I both her Laurel.  My son really thought we were pulling his leg that we weren't hearing Yanny.  Crazy.

I can hear both. I heard laurel the first times I played it, then yanny for a while, then back to laurel. But now I can hear both at the same time.

Little late to the party but I hear Laurel. On that frequency thing charlie posted I hear yaMMi, not yaNNi. Both my kids hear Yanni. My wife heard yanni until she read it - after that she only heard laurel.
Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.

I think it just depends on what you're trying to conserve. I wouldn't be confident of maintaining any natural resource without significant buy-in from the general public, though.
