Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
« on: December 18, 2017, 01:38:42 PM »
Not amazing on its own, but a worthy continuation of the saga and worth watching.

7/10

I enjoyed it. Didn't seem to move the overall plot along much but it was entertaining.

Off beat forced humor, multiple really outlandish (even for space wizards) plot twists, and one side story was just plain wasted time.  Not all bad I guess but I might be done with Star Wars.  6/10   :(

Yeah, I also found some of the humor to be out of place at times.

I agree.. some odd humor, and I had quibbles with some parts of the story.

Do we have spoiler tags here? Guess not.

But I actually like where it's setting up the next stage (stages?) of the series to go.

haven't seen it yet, but not worried about spoilers.
I'll probably wait till its available digitally and just watch it eventually.  Heck, I just watched Rouge One for the first time last week.

I'm not a purist star wars fan and, as a casual watcher of the series, I feel like I'll probably like this new one. I don't get hung up on the legacy of the franchise stuff that I see other people complain about and at face value I love a good sci-fi action movie. For example, I really liked Rouge One.  I also just finally saw guardians of the galaxy 2 and also loved it (despite so many people I know saying it was horrible)

Laura and I thought Rogue One was awful.  Empty and hollow characters, dead end story that didn't even line up with the story it supposedly backed, the best part of the movie was the amazing support droid (if you ever played KoToR you will recognize the character).  We watched it at Disney Springs on opening day.  We both walked out shaking our heads at how lousy we thought it was.  4/10

Interesting take.  I loved Rogue one and I thought it backed the main story line very well.  I'm actually confused on how you got to that conclusion?  It even ends at the beginning of Episode IV.  And it was supposed to be a dead end story.  There's no sequel possibilities to it.

We saw TLJ on Friday - it was OK; it could have and should have been much better. Don't have time for a large review so three things I didn't like

SPOILERS

1. Leia flying back to the ship - wtf
2. the whole casino planet side story - I get it but what they developed here was either not needed or could have been handled in a different way
3. the biggest gripe is how uneventful Luke's death was - I mean, this is probably the biggest character outside of Darth Vador in the franchise and he should have gone down spectacularly.

SPOILERS

COMING

SOON

Ok...
1. Meh. Fine with that. Awkward, sure, but it’s nice to see Leia use the force after earlier episodes indicated she had the ability.
2. Meh. Ok.
3. I disagree on this one. Seemed similar to Obi-wan and Yoda, (kind of a hybrid of the two) which makes sense to me.

My gripes were with a couple jokes with odd timing, the Poe storyline (would it have been that hard to give him an explanation?), and never-ending cycle of “we’re doomed now, we’ve run out of options, oh wait here’s an idea”.
