Canned meat/fish
« on: September 05, 2007, 05:23:51 PM »
Any of you guys regularly make use of canned meats (not spam) but more like Tuna, Salmon, Chicken etc?

I'm a rather lazy person so I need stuff that doesn't require me heating up my oven to prepare. If I can't make it in less than 10min I probably won't bother. Unless I'm making cookies or something that will produce left overs.

I recently stumbled upon canned Salmon at the local Sam's Club and thought I'd give it a shot.

Canned meat is SO nasty.  Canned salmon better known as cat food should not even be sold for human consumption.

We eat canned tuna a lot. Not quite so much since the wife got the preggers because of mercury issues, but before that we had tuna sammiches and tuna casseroles regularly. We've tried the canned salmon, which works fine. Canned chicken I haven't tried but I doubt it's much different than the tuna.

Any of those work great in a sammich in 10 minutes or less (mix with mayonnaise to taste, then apply to bread). Some people in my family have something called creamed tuna on toast, which is canned tuna (or whatever) plus cream of chicken warmed and spread on toast. Not bad if you prefer something warmer. The tuna casserole I make takes up to 40 minutes, which isn't what you're going for.

I like the pre-cooked chicken in the packets (louis rich brand I think) Good for quesadillas (you can fry the tortillas in a pan with some oil)

I eat canned tuna at least 1-2 times a week for lunch.  It's high in protein, tasty, and easy to prepare.

Lesson learned.

I tried the canned Salmon last night and ending up throwing out half the sandwich I made. I just couldn't stand the taste, dry and awful.

Yeah, the mayonnaise is an essential addition.
