weird resolution issue (xp)
« on: December 31, 2008, 01:31:44 PM »
Wondering if you guys ever ran into this cause I can't figure it out.

Customers young child screwed her resolution so bad you can't see anything. So I used safemode to change the resolution back, booted up and its fine. But everytime you restart it, the resolution goes back to fucked up. I even managed to fix it in reg mode with some guesswork since I know my way around. Still resets when you reboot.

Any ideas?

Startup items?
MSConfig?
govtcheez03:  i kind of look for it - i seek out stupidity and annoy it until it either gets better, gets banned, or goes away on its own

No infections, msconfig has been swapped to diagnostic and custom doesn't make a difference.

Its like it isn't saving profile settings

Uninstall the original driver (the actual fix) then install the driver.  Issue fixed.

Negative ghost rider. All three versions of the video driver gave same result. I even gave drivercleaner a shot at it just in case. Seems to be a windows problem....

Fuck me I'm clueless

Figured I would update the thread with the fix. There is a string in the registry for the profile. The value of the string dictates if a change requiring profile updating has been made so that it saves the profile on reboot.

Google led me to it. Fix was to delete the string and restart. After that I fixed the resolution and restarted and it stuck.
