I'm not really an egg person but this morning I boiled up an egg aiming for soft boiled. Ended up with a medium boiled egg (yolk was thick but not hard) and man was it tasty. I think I'm going to prepare my eggs this way from now on.
-
Care to provide the times you used?
-
7 minutes plus a few seconds to fetch it out.
-
I always cold crash them when i do it. Only for a few seconds, unless they are hard boiled then i cold crash for like twenty minutes
-
I wish I could do eggs more... we don't buy them very often at all because of Sophie's allergies. Same with nuts. Eggs and nuts used to be pretty big in our diets. :(
-
Had it again this morning. I think I've found my breakfast protein.
-
thats too bad ober. We eat a shit load of eggs at my house. I would say at least 18/week.
-
Yea we probably go through a dozen a week.

Sophie is highly allergic to egg and nuts, although as far as we know, it's only by ingesting them. We initially thought she might grow out of it by now but the last testing we had done indicated she likely won't grow out of the egg allergy until her early teens. She will likely never outgrow the nut allergy.
We do get eggs from time to time (probably once every 6 months) but we have to be really careful when we do. And there are nice things about it. Baking egg free means you can eat batter without worrying. And we're all so used to it at this point. It's not that big of a deal anymore.
-
I eat the batter fuck it
-
Yeah, I've always nibbled on batter and eaten cookie dough straight up. Fuck, I prefer cookie dough over baked cookies most of the time.
-
yep, never gotten sick
-
Tried one for lunch today. Very tasty Mike! 7 minutes was just a hair too long for me. Going to try 6:45 next time.

Yeah, trying to find the perfect time. Of course it doesn't help that it depends on the egg itself. I've had several more and a few it was too long and a few it was just a little too short (the very inside part of the whites were just a little runny.

I did too. But I wouldn't let my kids do it. This way, we don't have to worry.

Made one last night, good idea Mike
-
Added some avocado "spread"* with it this morning. Really tasty.
*: Spread is just avocado cut and beaten with some lemon juice and salt. Makes a nice spread.
Been eating enough eggs like this that I might have to go back to buying a dozen at a time.

how else can you buy them? half dozen I assume? I don't know if I remember seeing a half dozen pack....
-
Yeah, been buying them in half dozen containers. Was tired of throwing out old eggs.
-
I made one this morning and put it on a pilsbury biscuit with a piece of cheese and some horse raddish sauce.

not medium boiled related but kinda on topic...
I like to make McDonald's style egg-muffin sandwiches that come out pretty awesome only take about 2 minutes to make.
put an english muffin in the toaster. Spray some Pam into a coffee mug and crack in an egg. Season to taste (I add salt, pepper and a shot of hot sauce) then whisk with fork. Microwave the egg for 45 seconds. Put a slice of cheese on your now-toasted english muffin and plop down your microwaved egg (which, thanks to the coffe mug, is now the perfect shape and size). The heat melts the cheese and viola! a quick, tasty and relatively healthy breakfast sandwich.

I posted this a few years ago and u all laughed at me

I'm still disgusted by it.

Easy way to speed up the overall time: steam the egg instead of boiling it. The cook time is the same but since you need a lot less water it takes less time to get the water boiling.
-
Did you notice a difference in the outcome?
-
Nope
-
...but since you need a lot less water it takes less time to get the water boiling
-
you asked if you still need to boil water to make steam. The answer is right on the quote, you still boil water but much less. Thus creating steam, which cooks the egg.
-
How do you steam the egg? Don't you still need to boil
water to make steam?
I have a device that quickly pressurizes the pot. The sudden increase in pressure case the water in the air to start boiling.

I may have to try this, but wtf is Pam?

Wait... I saw no meat involved with that. What kind of respectable breakfast sandwich has no meat???
BLASPHEMY!
-
According to the USDA eggs are meat...

Just tried this. Wow it came out great. Heated some deli turkey in a pan, some real cheddar, 2 eggs for 1 min, whole wheat english muffin....wow - tasty.
