I need Windows Server 2003 CD
« on: February 23, 2009, 10:04:51 PM »
I have a windows server 2003 machine that was installed using a windows volume licensing cd.  We have the product key in a spreadsheet. The server currently on old, failing cheap PC hardware.  we want to move the license to new hardware, but we don't have the volume licensing media.

Is there anywhere I can attain a copy?

Can you use the I368 folder like with WinXP?

you mean like the os cd? as i recall server 03 allows you to use any key with any install cd, so cant you just pull the information you need from the spreadsheet and torrent a new cd?

I should have some laying around. PM me an address and I'll send one out to you if you'd like.

I think the key has to be specific to the "channel" the software was acquired.  We have several OEM copies that came with our DELL servers, but the key will not work with the OEM OS.  Plus I'm so far removed from file sharing, I wouldn't even know where to find a reliable torrent...

webwhy - I found several copies but they all say "for distribution with new server only" - it might be similar to your DELL discs :dunno: let me know if you still want it.

DELL and OEM Distro disks will not work. They only work with a set string of keys. You need a corporate licensing copy. Sort of like XP. Home and Pro only work with a set predetermined string of keys. But Pro Corporate works with any key.

You should be able to find a release on piratebay, sumo, mininova, etc that will work with your key.

Uncle RoD will teach you all the piracy stuff, stand close kiddies.

Also consider imaging it, and moving the image onto the new hardware. You may have to sort through a few conflicts, but may be worth it.

So no go on my suggestion? Does 2003 have the I386 folder installed on the drive? If so you can copy that onto another medium and reinstall from that using the key you already have. Run WINNT32 from windows or WINNT from DOS

Windows 2003 Server uses a i386 folder, yes.

Then why not reinstall from that? The version of windows that it contains wil almost certainy work with the licence you have
