Uh-oh. Look out all you PHP experts...
« on: April 16, 2012, 11:11:03 AM »
As I'm not doing a great deal at the moment as per post in SC, I thought it was a good time to try to learn PHP and mySQL (seems to be the standard combo for database stuff on the web these days).

I have WAMPSERVER running quite nicely, and I've been going through one or two tutorials with good success. This post is just to apologise in advance, cos there WILL be some dumbass questions coming along shortly.

Oh, and if anyone has a wee bit of webspace that has PHP and mySQL that I could use for a short while that would be a real help *smiles winningly at Ben* :D

I could set you up with some space and a DB but I can't give you access to phpmyadmin or anything because you'd get access to all of my DBs.

So presumably I could do all the dev work locally and just upload a ready-rolled db? That would be sweet.

It's going to be a while before I have anything ready anyway, but I may take you up on that if you don't mind.

Well, yeah, you could create your DB locally and then run an export on it and then run that full SQL with a PHP call to generate the tables and load some basic data.

I may need some help on that, but yeah, sounds like a plan.

Loving PHP so far (not that I'm much past the simple examples stage). Why did no-one tell me it was C with a twist before? :)

I can set up a restricted user on my hosting account that would give you limited access. IE you would have phpmyadmin over a specific db and some webspace.

So if ben's setup don't work just let me know. Been wanting to try out that new multi-users option the host gave me a month or so back.
hey ethic if you and i were both courting lily allen..... oh wait, which one of us has a relationship that lasted more than the bus ride home?

Thanks for the offer Steve. May take you up on that.

I've signed up for some free space at HelioHost, so I'm going to see how that works out first. Also I hadn't realised that I can put my Wampserver online, which may just cover my needs anyway.

Be careful using a local server online. You can scoop up a host for $3-$5 (USD) bucks a month these days that will do what you need also.

Yeah, understood. I only want something I can run quick dems on. Managed to get set up with some free space at HelioHost.

Are you thinking of using this as a self venture, or to add it to your skill set?
