new Nintendo was announced. too hard to link video on mobile, but I think it looks pretty neat. they're combining their mobile and home platforms into one.

I was going to replace our broken wii with a Wii U but I'm considering holding off for this.

Honestly, when I look it I just see a lot of pieces that can be broken, lost, or worn out.  It is an interesting idea but it doesn't seem practical.

How is it any less durable than any similar tablet/hand held device?  Granted, you don't have the connection/friction points in some of those other systems but this is what people want.  I think they're responding to the market and doing it well.  I hope the quality is high enough to avoid some of the problems you mention but we'll see.

The connection points is the main issue I see.  That and the number of distinct pieces.  And maybe this is what the market wants, that doesn't mean I have to think it is a great thing and fawn over it.

edit: I do get why people are excited and it is a different direction which may be great.  Since I don't do a lot in handheld I don't feel the excitement.

I didn't say you had to think it was awesome.  I was just questioning why you assumed it would fail so quickly.

Personally, I game a number of different ways so I find it pretty interesting.

I never said it'd fail quickly.  Hell, I never even said it would fail.  Lots of impractical things end up netting the company a lot of money.

Sorry, maybe 'fail' was the wrong word.  I didn't mean the product itself would fail as a revenue source for Nintendo.  I was referring to your comment about the individual devices getting 'lost, broken or worn out'.

Apparently these are crazy successful. Once I become unblacklisted from my industry and can find a job, I may get one

Update from my previous comments.  We ended up getting a Wii U about 2 years ago to replace our broken Wii.  Then we gave my son the option of a large friend party at a laser tag place or a Switch (they were about the same price).  He chose the Switch.  He loves it.
