OH SHIT!  I LOVE 5 Guys!!!  Best burgers ever!  We used to drive 45 minutes to Staunton to get them while I was in college.

I miss them being in NOLA.  Best Burgers Ever.

'huh, never heard of them....though their websites say's there's one about 30 minutes away.

I'm guessing you recommend 'em and its worth the trip?

whats the atmosphere and price range?
Where does it fit in the spectrum:

street-vendors
fast-food (mcDonald's)
made to order / to go (local deli/pizza/chinese restaurant)
Diners
Buffets
Pub/Bar
Family-Friendly Sit-Down (with crap on the walls) like TGIFridays
Family-Friendly II (higher priced) like Red Lobster; Outback
Upscale chain restaurants (like Emerils)
Upscale restaurants (you know, local nice places)
Reservation only restaurants w/ coat+tie required (usually French an snotty)

Holy crap micah!?

I would say it is in the fast food vein, but with boardwalk quality and quantity fries, and good quality burgers.  Good as in better than Fudruckers.  Never frozen, juicy, not greasy and done juust right.

It is fast food done to quality standards.  Places are always clean, bright, and staffed with great workers.

It has kind of a Rally's feel to it.

The sweet tea rocks.

One burger each and a shared fry and a shared large iced tea is more than enough for my wife and I.  Price for our meal was about $15.  Caution.  A large fry is flipping HUGE.

We drive about 40 minutes to either of the two we are "near".

That what you were lookin' for micah?

A bit below that.  More of a diner type feel.  Great burgers.  Cajun fries are amazing, and both sizes of fries are big.  I went with 3 fraternity brothers ad 1 large fry was enough.  Double meat, BBQ, mushrooms, and whatever else you want all no charge.  Oh, and the lemonade is also real good.

This is what you're having for lunch tomorrow micah.

Already looked.

Have about $400k ready (to be realistic).

In the right area you would make it back pretty fast though.

It is incredible how many restaurants you can put in this category.  Within 10 minutes of here, there is an Applebee's, Friday's, Chili's, and probably a few others that are exactly the same restaurant with different names.

Yeah and the food is all about the same.  Boring and filled with sugar, salt, and MSG.  But it is always nice to stare at the dusty crap on the walls.

here's the list of places within about 3 miles of my home:

Chili's
The 99
TGI Friday's
Red Robin
UNO's
Friendly's (three of them)
Hops
John Harvards
Hooters
Applebees

Then there are the slightly more expensive places with less junk on the walls:

Ted's Montana Grill (awesome Buffalo burgers!)
Texas Roadhouse (great steaks!)
Outback
Bugaboo Creek
Vinny T's
Macaroni Grill
Olive Garden

Those are just the chain-restaurants I can think of. I'm sure there's more. There's also quite a few local places too.  I sort of live near a major retail area if you can't tell.

("Where do you want to go for dinner" is a loaded question that generally spawns a 10 minute conversation between my wife and I)

No major chains in my immediate area.  I guess there's a McDonalods, Wendy's, Burger King, Dominoes, and a Pizza Hut about 2.5-3 long miles away.  Realalistically, I have about 5 local places within a mile or 2 that are great to eat at.

sorry to bump this dead thread, but I finally went to Five Guys.

Awesome Burgers!!! My wife loved it too.  Well worth the 40 minute drive in a snow storm. (well, maybe next time I'll wait for better weather)

Good thing we decided to share the large fries.  It must have been the equivalent of like 5 potatoes or something.  The wife's not a huge fan of the boardwalk style - but just the same, between the two of us it was hard to polish off that many fries.

Thanks for the recommendation, I never would have found that place otherwise.
