I have not used it personally but I know its legit.  What is your intended need, do you need to make POS transactions? or would you be just as well served with something like their online only (and free for personal transaction service) https://cash.me  or the competitor https://paypal.com/me ?

I just want to build a website. Is it generally geared for retail?

my understanding is that its just for point of sale card swiping/chip dipping/ apple paying etc when a card is present. I don't think they even have a way to integrate into a website (although I could be wrong).  If you're doing a website that takes money, I'd suggest https://stripe.com it's a solid platform that's very easy to setup and integrate.

Found out the hard way that Stripe's Terms of Service for prohibited businesses is even broader than whats listed on their site https://stripe.com/us/prohibited-businesses

A client paid me to switch a portion of their payments over to stripe last week.  Got an e-mail today that the business, which sells extended auto warranties through nearly 1,200 dealerships in multiple states, violates the Stripe TOS and they've been dropped from the Stripe platform.

These regulations come from our banking partners, so we sadly have no flexibility with them. That said, we understand that there may be some work involved with moving your business away from Stripe, and we’re happy to help out with this process by giving you 5 days to switch to a new provider. After that, you won’t be able to accept additional charges on your account

Yikes!
